Fiction writing workshop

“Inventing Stories Using the Five Senses” offers female inmates of the Civitavecchia Women's Prison a safe space to explore themselves through writing. Using images, music and scents as creative stimuli, participants rediscover the power of words to tell emotions, desires and stories in a path of authentic and liberating expression.

The project

The workshop was created as a creative journey into the imaginary: through the use of metaphors and symbols, female inmates learn to give narrative form to their experiences and share stories that speak of themselves and the world.

Each meeting is a time devoted to listening and writing, in which judgment is suspended to foster freedom and trust. Stimulated by the five senses, participants bring forth memories, desires and inner images, transforming them into texts that give voice back to what often remains unexpressed.

Objectives

The method, devised by Francesca Crisi, a writer and scholar of autobiographical methodologies, enhances the narrative dimension as a tool of knowledge, personal growth of the participants and contributes to rehabilitation through writing, which becomes a tool for self-knowledge and encounter with the other.

At the end of the course, the collected stories flowed into a dedicated publication, leaving a trace of the work done and the shared value of this path.
