Municipality of Favignana - Art&Prison

Project

The project was created with the aim of using art, culture and education as tools to facilitate the social reintegration of people who have experienced situations of detention or are subject to restrictive measures, also involving crime victims, artists and students.

Planned activities include the creation of exhibitions, art competitions and workshops open to the direct or indirect participation of prisoners and former prisoners, enhancing their personal expression in a creative and regenerative way.

The Convention also provides for the organization of seminars, conferences and educational paths on the themes of prison, prison labor, restorative justice and prisoners' rights, with the aim of involving public and private entities, citizens and local communities in a constructive dialogue on the role of art in social transformation.

Special attention is paid to the enhancement of the cultural and architectural heritage of the Egadi Islands, and in particular the spaces of the former Stabilimento Florio, a symbolic place of regeneration and collective memory.

The Convention also includes a collaboration with the Gregorian University, confirming the educational, interdisciplinary and inter-institutional vocation of the project.

Objectives

The project aims to generate opportunities for resocialization through artistic and cultural languages, raise awareness of the value of reintegration and promote the culture of restorative justice. It also intends to strengthen connections between academia, cultural institutions and the prison system, enhancing experiences that focus on the person, the relationship and the possibility of a second chance.
