Painting workshop
An artistic journey that brought the transformative power of art into the women’s section of Rebibbia prison, thanks to the sensitivity of artist Leonardo Petrucci and the collaboration with Fondazione Pastificio Cerere.
The project
The Fall of the Sky is a Happy Thought is the project that involved a group of women inmates from Rebibbia Prison in a painting workshop led by artist Leonardo Petrucci. During the workshops, the participants had the opportunity to experiment with different techniques and shape a personal artistic language, exploring the relationship with the night and the stars through drawing and painting.
From the canvases created in prison emerged works selected for the international painting competition Art&Prison, exhibited in the setting of the Florio Factory in Favignana. The experience did not end within the prison walls: one of the participants was given the chance to continue the journey with an internship at the artist’s studio inside Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, a landmark of Rome’s cultural scene.

Objectives
With this project, Fondazione Severino aims to offer women the chance to discover and nurture their creative talent, turning art into a tool for personal growth and social inclusion. The initiative seeks not only to introduce participants to a new expressive language, but also to open spaces of inner freedom, generate fresh perspectives, and give visibility to artworks that tell stories of resilience and rebirth, fostering authentic connections between inside and outside.

Leonardo Petrucci
Artist
Visual artist, born in Grosseto in 1986 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Leonardo Petrucci carries out research that intertwines art, science, and symbolism, with a particular focus on alchemy, sacred geometry, and astronomy. Since 2012 he has worked in his studio at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, in the San Lorenzo district of Rome, a vibrant hub of contemporary artistic experimentation.
For Fondazione Severino, he designed and led the project The Fall of the Sky is a Happy Thought, guiding the women inmates of Rebibbia Prison through a journey of discovery and introduction to art and painting. With sensitivity and care, he encouraged the recognition of individual talents and the opportunity to give voice, through artistic language, to new forms of expression and inner freedom.
