Theater workshop

DA CAMBIARE“Per un teatro stabile” is a theater project carried out in Orvieto and Civitavecchia's penitentiary institutions in collaboration with the AdDentro ETS association.

Theater workshop

The project

The project involves inmates of the women's section of the Casa Circondariale and inmates of the Civitavecchia and Orvieto Detention Home. The goal is to consolidate the presence of theater as an integral part of the life of the institution, as a stable and transformative practice.

The participants and inmates are involved in a path made up of theatrical exercises, writing, stage rehearsals and confrontation. The work is developed in synergy with the educational and health areas, and is based on listening, authenticity and the possibility of taking the floor in a space that does not normally grant it.

In June 2024, the workshop created two plays resulting from original rewrites: Sottocoperta, inspired by Stefano Benni's book Il bar sotto il mare and Euripides' Le Troiane, staged in May 2026 at the Nuovo Ateneo Theatre of Sapienza University of Rome.

Goals

The project aims to reconstruct identity in a context that tends to erase it, the possibility of recognizing oneself in a role other than the one imposed by guilt and detention.

The theater work stimulates listening, cooperation and mutual trust; it opens spaces of freedom in which one can return to choosing, to telling, to feeling part of something.
