Unlimited Edition – The Bag

Unlimited Edition: The Bag is a training project that uses design as a tool for social inclusion and personal growth. The initiative involves women inmates at the Milan-Bollate Prison, offering a learning path focused on handbag design and providing technical and creative skills within a structured educational environment. The project is conceived by the Fondazione Francesco Morelli and developed in collaboration with the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), with the support of the Fondazione Severino and the collaboration of Ethicarei.

Unlimited Edition – The Bag

Project

The project is part of the broader “Unlimited Edition: Life, designed by you” programme, which promotes design as a tool for education and transformation in contexts of vulnerability.

In 2025, eight women inmates took part in an intensive Fashion Design course focused on handbag design, led by IED lecturers. The participants developed and produced their prototypes directly inside the prison, with the support of Ethicarei.

The programme concludes with a final presentation of the works, the awarding of certificates, and the production of documentary materials that narrate the educational experience.

Goals

The project aims to use design as a tool for education and inclusion, offering participants a concrete opportunity for personal development and the acquisition of technical and creative skills. It also seeks to strengthen autonomy and self-awareness, supporting pathways toward social and professional reintegration.

A further objective is to assess and enhance the project’s social impact through dedicated evaluation tools.
