Paola Severino
Founder and Honorary Chair
Paola Severino is the Founder and Honorary President of the Severino Foundation.
Professor Paola Severino leads the Foundation by contributing her extensive professional, academic, and institutional experience, as well as her unwavering commitment to a fairer and more inclusive justice system.
The first woman to serve as Italy’s Minister of Justice, she is Professor Emeritus of Criminal Law at LUISS Guido Carli University, President of the LUISS School of Law, and President of the National School of Administration.
In 2017, she created the university project Legalità e Merito (“Legality and Merit”), which every year engages LUISS students and high school students, as well as young people from Juvenile Detention Centers, Juvenile Social Services Offices, Ministerial Communities, and Reception Centers in a meaningful dialogue about the values of legality, merit, and respect in all its forms.
Recognized as one of the leading experts in Economic Criminal Law, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, and Legislative Decree 231/2001, she has been a speaker at numerous national and international conferences. Among the many honours she has received are the decorations of Knight Grand Cross and Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, an Honorary Degree in Law from the University of Glasgow, an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Messina, and her appointment as Counselor to the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
The Severino Foundation was established in 2019 from her vision and her belief that the law can be a tool for inclusion, restoring dignity, and creating real opportunities for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Her vision, combined with a deep sense of civic responsibility, remains the soul of the Foundation and continues to inspire every project and initiative.
