“I never thought in my life I would have these experiences, especially in prison! What you are doing is extraordinary, and I can’t help but tell you.”
With these words, spoken at the end of the performance, one of the participants gave voice to the deepest meaning of the experience.

Last Saturday, at the Nuovo Teatro Ateneo, a theatre project created within the women’s section of the Casa Circondariale di Civitavecchia was brought to the stage, stepping beyond prison walls for a single day to meet an external audience.

A passage that is far from obvious, marking the outcome of an artistic and human journey.

Under the guidance of directors Ludovica Andò and Veronica Di Marcantonio, the participants worked on The Trojan Women, transforming the classical tragedy into a living reflection on loss, memory, and the possibility of change. In this context, theatre becomes a space of resistance, expression, and transformation.

“The destiny of all things is to change” became the guiding line of the project, encapsulating its meaning and trajectory.

The Fondazione Severino supports the initiative within the Permanent Theatre Project – Social Theatre Workshops 2024/2026, funded by the Lazio Region, promoting training, expression, and pathways of reintegration through artistic practice.
